Southern Africa faces an increasing orphan crisis due to the HIV and AIDS pandemic, with thousands of parentless children facing desperate life situations every day.

Jewels of Hope originated in 2004 as a support group to 11 children from child-headed households who made jewellery to support themselves. This model has been extended, through partnerships, to other locations in Southern Africa.

Jewels of Hope aims to mobilise and equip local people to care for and disciple orphans in their community. We seek to be part of the solution by becoming a voice for the voiceless, meeting them at their point of need and bringing them hope for the future.

 Bringing the Light

Our mission today is to develop young people who are:

  • in a relationship with Jesus Christ
  • securely grounded in who they are
  • economically active
  • a positive influence in their community

 What We Do

Jewels of Hope serves by designing marketable jewellery, sourcing and buying raw materials; preparing bead kits; providing training in the production process, child development and discipleship, and opening access to markets.

Jewels of Hope provides tools to Christian churches and organizations (our partners) to establish Connect Groups, with five children between the ages of 11 and 18 years, assisted by an adult who not only acts as a jewellery trainer but also as a mentor and support for the difficult life situations the children face. This group meets weekly and provides a means for personal growth, income generation and life skills for vulnerable children, without them missing school.

I bought two necklaces when I saw them at a craft bazaar and they are absolutely wonderful with the right amount of uniqueness to them. Good luck to you in your endeavors. I wish you all well! It’s a tough job, but we all have to go through it to some degree! Wish your wares were offered on-line.

I worked (volunteered) with this group for a little over a year (2009 & 2010)while living in SA. I believe it is an awesome way to help the children not only make money to live on but also to learn about our Lord Jesus Christ and how we should act as his children. The love and care the adults give to these kids is something they don’t get on an everyday bases. This is needed so much in these kids lives, someone to listen to them, give them advise, help them carry it out and most important someone to pray for them. I now live back in the states but am still involed by helping them, by sell jewerly where I live, work and go to church.
    Blessing to you all
    Debbie
